About the Role:
Planet is constantly working on next generation systems & space platforms & we are seeking a Spacecraft NPI Applications Engineer to support Planets current & next generation spacecraft development & manufacturing. You will be the front-facing engineer to support the aforementioned teams with their day to day needs & work in the back-end on process improvements & developing tools.
What You Bring:
- Provide daily support to the engineers, administration, automation & configuration for a variety of engineering applications, including but not limited to, Mechanical & Electrical CAD/PDM Systems, PLM, Simulation/Computing Systems & Integrated Systems.
- Act as the first point of contact for problem resolution & resolve key systemic production issues or address requests.
- Diagnose & solve a range of issues, including, but not limited to software deployment, installation & setup, licenses, general 3D modeling, drafting, assembly & hardware-related issues.
- Provide resolution to technical support issues in a professional & timely manner.
- Develop workarounds & operating techniques when needed & communicate them to customers.
- Develop automation tools for repetitive design/simulation tasks.
- Provide following support for Engineering Systems.
- Creating user accounts, assigning to the groups, updating workflows, executing ECOs, creating parts, BOMs, AMLs.
- Managing Solidworks part & drawing templates, introducing best practices, identifying & developing automation tools.
- Helping users installing, client setup, connection issues, workflow issues, data correction & process improvements.
- Import & export data into/from systems.
- Run the scripts to bulk data creation, testing & migration.
- Scripting experience & skills (Python, VB, .NET) are preferred.
- Create/Update user training material, Wiki & FAQs for repetitive user issues.
- Document test cases for system integration testing & UAT.
- Maintain close relationships with the software resellers & vendors for issue resolution, training needs & onboarding new tools.
- Identify & drive CAD/PLM process improvements. Work with internal systems teams to implement system enhancements in support of operational efficiency & efficacy gains.
- Scaling systems & processes, researching & on-boarding tools & lead training efforts.
- Understanding & experience in Supply Chain, Logistics & Manufacturing Execution is a plus.
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Bachelors or Master's degree with 3-5 years of industry experience in one or more of the following fields: Product Development, New Product Introduction (NPI) or Manufacturing Operations or any related Engineering field.
- Experience working with hardware engineering & manufacturing operations teams
- Define BOM structures, release parts & execute ECOs.
- Knowledge of the hardware development lifecycle phases.
- Experience with the define & drive use cases for CAD & PLM solutions implementations.
- Experience in any scripting/programming languages.
- CAD Automation Tools development experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of MRP & MES systems scores extra points.
- Proven ability to work & thrive in a fast paced & time sensitive environment while maintaining a high level of detail, accuracy, & confidentiality.
- Cross-functional team player & ability to work closely with all product groups.
- Work on multiple projects & tasks at a time with the ability to effectively prioritize & multitask.
- Strong organizational skills & ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams & job functions
