The Sankofa Global Project, in partnership with Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy, is hosting its first annualTech Education ConferenceonTuesday, April 25at Brooklyn Borough Hall. The themes of the conference are:
- What isS.T.E.A.M.(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) education?
- How do we conceptualize S.T.E.A.M. education beyond the classroom?
- What are creative ways to overcome barriers to access to S.T.E.A.M. education?
We areinvitingBrooklyn's Education Leaders, Superintendents, Principals, Parent Coordinators, & Community Education Councils to attend.Together, we will work to address an enduring problem - the lack of women & people of color in the S.T.E.A.M. fields. This is the express goal of the Sankofa Global Project.
Far too often, the problemis pervasive in under-represented school communities, where many of the glaring disparities begin. Low rates of access to S.T.E.A.M. internships, fellowships, mentorship, entrepreneurial endeavors, resources, & employment lead to limitations on innovation, global incompetence, apathy, indifference, timidity, & subordination. As you are well aware, theSankofa Global Project has created programs, curricula, & initiatives specifically designed to assist under-served students in gaining access to an education that provides a thorough S.T.E.A.M. curricula. In addition, the Sankofa Global Project assists students in exploring career & global opportunities in the S.T.E.A.M. fields.
