Do you wonder how you or your company can create value in an AI powered world? Do you feel overwhelmed by the hype? Are you worried your company won't be able to compete against the massive companies building in the AI space? In this talk, Karl has over thirty years of experience building technology powered businesses & will discuss the evolution of AI, trends, strengths, & weaknesses of current AI technologies. Recently he & a small rag-tag team of technologists & product people built a system that is now the core technology of a 1-Billion-dollar media products company. Learn how they approached this daunting task & how you can do the same yourself to unlock hidden value by applying AI technologies to real world business problems

Bio: Karl Bunch is the former SVP of Global Products at Xasis, a WPP company. He previously served as Chief Technology Officer at ad technology platform iSocket, prior to its acquisition by the Rubicon Project. He has also held senior positions at AppNexus where his responsibilities included defining & growing the company's agency & marketer business, helping build out the company's mobile products business & guiding advertisers in maximizing their digital spend. Other experience includes serving as Chief Solutions Officer at digital media holding company CPXi & as SVP, strategic technology at Warner Music Group.

Talk #2: How to get company to embrace the very machines that disrupt its core business

The machines are coming! Sometimes your audience is excited by the possibilities. Sometimes they are scared senseless, imagining their jobs being assumed by a machine that doesn't need benefits or vacations. Whether that audience is your boss or your customer, there are ways to approach the topic of artificial intelligence that will give you the best chance of having your audience land on the excited side of the equation. Steven Toy will tell you how he has started multiple AI projects within a Big 4 company filled with career accounts & tax preparers whose jobs are likely one of the first to be threatened by the rise of the machines.

Bio: Steve Toy is the Leader of EY's Foundry::Labs & is focused on emerging technologies in the AI & blockchain spaces. With regard to AI Steve is particularly focused on the areas of Question & Answer pairing to replicate the advice business, Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Natural Language Generation (NLG) & Machine Learning. The brief of EY Foundry::Labs is to understand emerging technologies, the candidate use cases within EY & EY's customers so the two can be paired quickly & profitably. Steve brings 25+ years of experience building start-ups of all sizes & managing P&Ls from seed stage funding $100M in revenue across a myriad of verticals. Steve's last venture, TaxChat, is an Uber-like two-sided marketplace that pairs tax filers with tax preparers & was purchased by EY in Q4 2016.
